    Great presentation, and as someone who has worked over 40 years in HOLLYWOOD, I congratulate you on your fine editing and wonderful photography! We spent 9 days in Kauai last month and it rained most of the 7 days, and only bright sunshine one day and partly the last day... and May is supposed to be the "Dry Season." The Kauai local joke about just wait 15 minutes and the rain will go away, well I don't think that comforts the tourists much. My good friend worked on SOUTH PACIFIC and they had quite rained out days and destroyed sets... years later for 1976's KING KONG we had almost the same, bad light from those dark clouds mostly. But you did very well and had good luck whatever month you chose, and I did 8 months of research and through numerous UA-cam videos like yours, coupled with Google Maps for experiencing the virtual driving, they all helped climatize me to the island, but not with the weather. Unfortunately this was my very last flight anywhere, as the stress of air travel, sardine-can airlines and TSA pat-downs has ruined it for me. I came in with PAN AM and TWA, an era when travelling was fun, cheap and cheerful... You know it's a funny thing here in Los Angeles our LAX airport is the number one spot in the world for drug smuggling with checked-in luggage. Thats right suitcases full of cocaine and alike are only x-rayed for explosives, nothing else! London Airport and many airtports around the world do check for drugs in all luggage with x-rays and sniffer dogs, but LAX with it's multi-billion dollar "Olympics" makeover isn't planning on tackling the drug smuggling problem anytime soon. The local ABC station ran a story on it, interviewed all the Federal, State and local agencies, and all said it wasn't their job, but a Florida sheriff brought it to everyone elses attention when he started checking the check-in luggage in his juristiction and confiscating it. Again, good presentation and narration, at least I trust it's your own voice and not AI like so many other UA-camrs!

    • @newsocracy
      @newsocracy 2 місяці тому

      I think like most isolated islands, there aren’t poisonous snakes. I’m from a mosquito filled place, so constantly avoiding them is second nature to me. But yeah, if you’re out at night, they will be too. None of the rentals I stayed in had air-conditioning, so screen doors and fans were a must. Particularly in the treehouse, it would’ve been nice to just leave the window covers open, but I would’ve been alive.

    • @grahamcook9289
      @grahamcook9289 2 місяці тому

      @@newsocracy Poisonous critters of all sorts aren't the problem, as you would have to eat one to be poisoned. Doh! It's the venomous ones that can bite you and inject venom that you need to worry about. There you go, the difference between poisonous and venomous critters. May I suggest you never go to Australia as you would be a dead man walking to the snakes, spiders, octopus, jelly fish and duckbilled platypus. And those are just the ones that I know that are venous. I'm sure there are others. And of course there are the ones that want to eat you such as sharks, crocodiles and giant lizards. And don't forget the giant kangaroos and emus that can kick you to death.

      There are lots of us, particularly in the US, who live on extraordinarily flat land and rarely take a car on a ferry. Apparently there are a few of us in French-speaking countries as well, as the reminder to use the brake was said in French. Use of parking brakes is not common in lots of places. I doubt I’ve used one more than 40 times in my life.

      @@newsocracy In the UK, if you did not put the parking brake on when parked, or even while waiting at lights, then you would automatically fail a driving test. I'm pretty sure that's universal, probably even in the US. May I suggest that have developed some very lazy and untimely unsafe driving habits. And as for Ferris is it not obvious that there will be movement as the boat moves across the water? Without the use of parking brakes there would be chaos on the vehicle deck! It should be noted that with EVs the parking brake is automatic when stopped. It's a bit weird at first, but you soon adapt.

      @@grahamcook9289 I have horrifying news for you. No one puts an emergency break on waiting at lights. If you did, you'd fail the US test. Of course you use the emergency/parking break on a ferry. I simply mentioned that they remind everyone to do so in French, but not English. And that's because a parking break isn't commonly used. And if it's your first time on a ferry, it might not immediately come to mind. Glad to compare driving records anytime.

      @@newsocracy I've never heard the parking break described as an 'emergency brake'? Perhaps that's the issue here. The parking brake is just that, a parking brake and in no way an emergency brake. Your emergency brakes are the front and rear friction brakes that you apply to slow the vehicle down and bring it to got a complete halt, at which point good practice is to apply the parking or hand brake. If you had to use the parking brake as an emergency brake, then you are in serious trouble as your friction brakes have failed! Some of course do abuse the handbrake to do handbrake 180 turns! Stunt drivers are trained to do it, as are security drivers who need to evade a pursuer.

    What's a standard transmission? Manual? Column shift or stick shift?

      Automatic cars dominate the world now, but once most cars were manual or stick shift. Hence they were called standard transmissions because it was pretty essential that you knew how to operate one. I should’ve said manual instead for people younger than me or in other countries.
